Textile should allow markup to be used inside of a word with appropriate escaping, but this doesn't work in Redmine. For example:
c[oo]l
should bold the "o"s. See http://txstyle.org/doc/16/strong-and-bold-text
"Other textile guides":http://movabletype.org/documentation/author/textile-2-syntax.html#inline_formatting claim that braces (I assume they mean {}) should work as well to offset word-internal formatting.
