Redmine provides a way to customize the format of dates and times on whole Redmine basis. That configuration option is found in Administration/Settings/Display/Date format and Time format.
One of the settings if user preference in which case the dates and times are formatted bases on the culture preference of the user. I would appreciate if there is an option to customize the formats on a user level. I am Hungarian and personally, I like to use all of my software in English but still use dates and times in Hungarian standard formatting (btw 2012. 12. 05, but I am very satisfied with Redmine standard date input formatting 2012-12-05).
My installation:
- Redmine 2.1.4
- Ruby: I think this is not applicable.
- Rails: I think this is not applicable.

Some 9+ years later, this is still not something the *user* can choose for *his/her* preferences, which is where it belongs. Or did I not find the correct place on the *user profile* to change this?
The date/time format a user prefers has nothing to do with the selected language, locale, or other regional settings.
+1 for getting this into some future Redmine 4.x release :-)
