I am using Redmine 3.3.0.stable, and I would like to give the Reporter role the additional permission to edit issue descriptions. It seems that the only way to do this is to activate "Edit issues", which allows them far too much.

I think you can edit field permissions (workflow) for this role, and make all fields (except description) read-only (for all trackers).
Also uncheck all status transitions for the role

Thank you for this suggestion, but this would mean a lot of changes at a fine-grained level. I do not want to do these, because I might break something.
Instead, I would prefer a single additional checkbox "Edit descriptions" in "Roles and permissions".
