In the age of responsive web applications and mobile devices I think this is the way to go.
Tables are very hard to style for mobile devices and sometimes it would make more sense to represent them in a different way.
Creating the existing tables with divs and give them component specific classes would increase the freedom for theme designers and leads to a more flexible UI/UX.
